Homes in Reston Home Search Search for Reston Area Homes Community Overview Reston was first modern post-war planned community in the United States.  Funded through the private funds of Robert E Simon, the town was founded in April 1964.   The concept of Reston is that there would be a mix of all house types allowing for families to live there for a lifetime.  Reston indeed is a mix of high rise efficiency apartments, town houses in 7 original village clusters and single family homes with 3 to 6 bedrooms.   Because the community was planned there was careful attention paid to the parks and common grounds. The town boasts nearly 20 public swimming pools, tennis courts, foot and bike pathways. Reston has a very active homeowners association that maintains the pools, two golf courses, tennis courts and public parks.   Many people choose to come to Reston in their early years for the convenience of fine dining, shopping and entertainment at the Reston Town Center but then stay as they move into townhomes and single family homes to raise their family.
