Great Falls is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 15,427, an increase of 80.5 percent from the 2000 census.

Probably the first settlers of Great Falls were the early Americans who are mentioned in archeology reports. By 1990, the Fairfax County Archeologist had identified 100 sites, believed to be early American, in Great Falls. The oldest of these is considered to be about 9,000 years old, others about 3,000 years old. No evidence of Native American permanent residence in Great Falls is known to exist. The nearest villages were opposite Washington, D.C., and in the Mount Vernon area.
Great Falls lies in the Piedmont upland on the right bank of the Potomac River. The river forms the northern and eastern border of the official area, and several of its tributaries flow north and east through Great Falls. From north to south, these include Nichols Run, Clarks Branch, and Difficult Run. Difficult Run forms the southeastern border of the territory. Two of its tributaries, Captain Hickory Run, and Piney Run flow southeast through the southern part of the city limits. The Great Falls of the Potomac River, the community's namesake, are on the east side of Great Falls.
