History

Located next to Annan River, Annandale is a unique community named in 1830. In 1685, Col. William H. Fitzhugh, a popular Englishman at that time purchased around 24,000 acres of land. The Englishman and his descendants owned the land for around six generations and had named it Ravensworth. It was the largest tobacco plantation in Virginia.

Later, the descendants sold out the land to businessmen, construction companies and private property buyers. Currently, tobacco is not among top businesses in Annandale but it is still planted in some of its areas. The name Annandale drives origin from Annandale in Scotland.

Transportation was the first development in Ravensworth. In 1846, the first church was constructed here. Today, the neighborhood boasts intensity of business affairs and extravagances of wealth.

Location

Connected to other parts of North Virginia by Virginia State Route 236 and Capital Beltway, the neighborhood is located just at the mouth of Annan River. Expanding its wings at 20.4 square-kilometers, Annandale runs across Fairfax Cross County Trail.
